LADY LINKS GOLF ASSOCIATION
Seventeen years ago I had numerous women attending my golf schools, but rarely did I see these women actually play golf. I knew that women's golf was exploding nationally and the need for women to learn how to play golf, from a business perspective alone, was greater that ever. Women had the tendency to be intimidated by the country club and golf course atmosphere and were not acquainted with other women who played golf.
I wanted to change that aspect of the game by providing women with the opportunity to come together, network with other women and develop basic skills to play golf in a non-threatening environment. That was the beginning of Lady Links.
Lady Links is a yearly program that is designed to educate and teach women about the game of golf. They are given the unique opportunity to play nine holes on a weekly basis and 18 holes on a weekend basis with other women at the same skill level. Organization of the program is done directly through the Classical School of Golf office and the scheduling is formatted for the calendar, approved by the head golf professional and then distributed to each member.
Typically, outings are scheduled during the down times at the club. In addition to the weekly/weekend outings we offer quarterly member/guest events, three hour golf school, mixed events and out of town outings at prestigious golf resorts. I attend every event and outing to provide personal attention to each participant.
Lady Link's members are required to pay an annual membership fee directly to the Lady Links Golf Association. The membership fee allows us to provide continuing education, golf schools, web site and information mail outs to the members. Our members also pay $20.00 to the club each time they play nine holes and $40.00 when they play 18 holes. All of the funds received belong to the club. The prizes that are presented to the outing winners are gift certificates purchased from the pro shop.
Lady Links has proven to fill the needs for many women golfers in the Tallahassee area and is continuing to grow. Historically, when there is an event involving Lady Links the field is a sell out with several ladies on the waiting list. Its success has been more than I had ever anticipated. In addition, the Lady Links Golf Association was chosen to be the role model for ladies golf programs by the National Golf Foundation.
